Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Lawn tractor battery charging, ac volts, electrical drawing

Question
I have a Seats Lawn Tractor, model 917.273061.  I just bought a battery for it, thinking the old one was bad.  The new one loses it's charge after a few weeks mowing.  I had the battery checked, and they say it is OK.  I'm looking at the schematics, and it shows a Rectifier/Regulator in the Engine/Electrical drawing.  Could this be the problem, and how could I check it.
Thanks,
Jim

Answer
Hello Jim:

Sorry for the Delay. This Question was Located in the Question Pool. For Testing the Electrical (Charging) System on Mowers you can Use this Site Addy; http://faqs.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/faqs.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=3438&p... and Use the Link for AC Volts/DC Amps Meter Setting Chart. This is for Briggs Engines and Works Well for Kohler and Other Engine OEMs. From your Description it Sounds like the Regulator or Stator (Charging Coil) is Bad. Usually the Regulator will be the Cause for Not Charging when one is Present. It Tends to Protect the Stator from Damage. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
