Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman LT1000 Stalls after a minute, craftsman lt1000, excess oil

Question
I recently purchased an LT1000 (Model 917 271750) second-hand and everything seemed fine for 4 mowings.  Now the cut is uneven (which I researched and will try to solve), but I can't cut if it doesn't run.

After the 4th mowing it stalled out.  It seemed that I put too much oil in so I drained it to the correct level, but the problem persists.

The stalling occurs regardless of whether I'm idling or driving.

I checked the fuel line and filter and they are ok, and the gas is probably a month or so old from the pump.

I checked the air filter and that looks like it needs to be changed, which I plan on doing this week.  But could that be the problem or is it going to be something more?

Answer
Marc,

your over fill caused excess oil to reach the head which is fouling your plug out try adding some quick start starting fluid thru the carb in small shots only Dont Hit it with a Large shot If you can get the excess oil out then it should straighten up But just to be sure take it in to a shop for a tune up the gaps may need a reset and a condenser could be going bad on you Generally I encourage all owners of second hand Mowers to seek the assistance of their local mowershops for a pre use tune up to make sure your unit is in top condition for your duration of duty
