Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): ariens rm1332 rear engine mower, aluminum plate, messy job

Question
My riding mower has quit moving when I shift into reverse.  The six forward speeds work fine.  Can you tell me the problem and how I can fix it or even where I might find a repair manual to download.  I am not a mechanic but will attempt anything at this point.

Answer
Did you try going to Airens web site and get the manual?

A few questions.
Model and serial numbers?
Was it ever working?
Is it belt drive or disk drive?

If it is a gear drive you may have sheared a shift key in the transmission. Have to remove it open it up and inspect it.  VERY messy job.  If it is a disk drive meaning that there is a rubber coated drive wheel that moves across a spinning aluminum plate.  The mower goes into reverse when the drive  wheel goes over center.  This is usually a cable adjustment. Hope this helps.
