Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): INTEK TROUBLES, fuel mixture, needle valve

Question
i've got a 6 horse intek on a pressure washer. I work on small engines reguarly but this one is different. it does not have an idle or fuel mixture screw. the engine runs for about 4 seconds and then dies. acts like the only fuel it is getting is from the prime bowl. i've insured that the fuel is getting all the way through the carb, but it still floods the engine after only about 4-5 seconds. any ideas would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Answer
The newer Briggs Inteks do not have idle adjustments, or low idle fuel adjustments, your right. Even if they had in this case it would be of no use, the mixture screws some do have are only for low idle, the high mixture has been for years done with the main jets. These carbs are very basic in nature, too much fuel, then the float needle valve and or seat is bad. The floats on these aren't even adjustable any more. Too little fuel, either the jets are blocked or the same thing float needle valve and or seat. Either situation same response, Carb rebuild. Assuming the float is ok, by shacking it and making sure no gas has entered the float.....Hope this helps...I gave you both examples, because your question is contradicting some what, first you say it's stalling after being primed meaning not getting fuel. Then you say further on it floods the engine. Either way carb rebuild I assure you......Tom
