Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Weedeater Wont Idle, air mixture, tb25cs

Question
QUESTION: John,

I have a Troy Bilt weedeater that I just replaced the carburetor, fuel filter, fuel lines, and the primer bulb on. It will crank right up after turning the choke on and it will run as long as I have the trigger pulled. If I release the trigger it dies instantly. Also, if I try to crank without the choke on it will not crank. I have adjusted the idle screw to just about every position possible but nothing changed. Can you provide any ideas on what I may have done incorrectly? Thanks!

ANSWER: Hello Larry:

Send me the Model Numbers Off the Unit, Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manual and Better Assist you. Thanks.

QUESTION: John,

The model number is TB25CS and parent part number is 41BDT25C063.

If possible can you verify where the fuel line from the tank or beside the primer bulb goes on the carb? The carb has a connection on the top and bottom and I would like to be sure I have it hooked up correctly.

The weedeater had gas on it from the very top of the casing down to the bottom. It may be that the gas tank has a leak because there is nothing else near the top casing that would be leaking that I can see. I assume that would cause it not to idle as well. Any input on that would be appreciated as well.

ANSWER: Hello Again Larry:

Thanks for the Model Numbers. Unfortunately the Breakdown does Not Show the Carburetor OEM or a Breakdown of the Carburetor. However, if this Carburetor has Fuel Mixture Screw, then Try Setting the Air Mixture Screws. The Following it the Instruction File for Setting the Air Mixture Screws. The Procedure is the Same for 1 or 2 Mixture Screws, Just Use the Instruction File and Skip Over the Section with the Missing Mixture Screw. Now Setting the Air Mixture Screws:  ****Turn the Idle Air (L) and Main Air (H) Mixture Screws In Until SNUG **Do Not Jam** Then Reverse Both Screws 1 1/2 Turns. Holding the Throttle Full Open, Start the Engine. Turn the Main Air Mixture Screw Clockwise Until Proper Revs are Obtained. Occasionally you May have to Turn this Counter Clockwise to Achieve the Proper Revs. Now Allow the Engine to Idle. Set the Engine Idle Screw (Not Idle Air) so the Engine will Stay Running if Required. Now Set the Idle Air Mixture Screw so there is No Hesitation when Throttling from Idle to Full Throttle. Reset the Engine Idle if Required.**** Did you Install the Carburetor Mounting Gasket Correctly? If the Gasket has a Vortex Hole in it, this Hole should Match the Hole in the Jug/Cylinder. Since the Carburetor Model and Breakdown was Not Available at the Troy-Bilt Site; I Require the OEM (Walbro, Zama, ect) and the Model Numbers Off the Carburetor. With these I can Locate a Breakdown of the Carburetor and Better Assist you. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

QUESTION: John,

I don't know the Zama part number for the carb but I do know the MTD carb number is mtd 753-04338. I assume they are the same but if not, let me know where I can find the Zama number.

Answer
Hi Again Larry:

If this is a Zama Carburetor, then You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Carburetor and Get Technical Information on Zama Carburetors at this Site Addy; http://www.zamacarb.com/tips.html and Select the 2008 Technical Guide. This is a 2.50mb PDF File that can Assist you Easier than I can. If this is a Walbro Carburetor, then You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Carburetor at this Site Addy, http://69.16.165.8/ and Select Service & Aftermarket. Now Select Aftermarket Parts and Service. Now Select the OEM (Troy Bilt). Now Select Trimmer. Now Select your Carburetor from the List Provided. If this is a New Carburetor, then Return it for a Replacement. If you Disassembled and Cleaned it, then Using the Breakdown, make Sure it was Assembled Correctly. If the Fuel Lines were Wrong, then the Engine would Not Start or Run at All. It Sounds like the Metering Pump Needle valve is Set Incorrectly. The Directions for Setting the Needle Valve are in the Technical PDF I Listed Above. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.
