Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): John Deere L130 Steering, snap ring pliers, flat screwdriver

Question
I have a JD L130. The steering gear on the bottom of the steering shaft is worn and not engaging the gears for the "flywheel" that attaches to the steering rods.  I have visited the JD website for the diagram of how this section is put together, however I cannot figure out how to remove the gear from the steering shaft.  I have removed the deck, "flywheel", steering rods, even attempted to remove the cross member attached to the bottom of the frame, I am unable to determine the process of removing the "C" keepers on the shaft that are in the diagram.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hello Robert:

Depending on the Clips Used, you May Require Snap Ring Pliers to Remove the Keepers. If they are the "C" Clips or the "E" Clips, then a Flat Screwdriver is Usually all that is Required to Remove them. The Gear May have to be Soaked with Penetrating Oil and Even Heated to Remove it from the Steering Rod/Shaft. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
