Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): john deere 180 starter selection issue, jd dealer, kawasaki motor

Question
QUESTION: I have a JD 180 with an FC540V Kawasaki motor, the starter was missing when I bought it, so what I have found is there are 2 different starters for the 180, one is a 9 tooth, the other is an 11 tooth, and a big price difference between them. My question is does it matter which one I use as long as the teeth mesh to the flywheel ok?

ANSWER: Hello Paul:

A 9 Tooth Starter will Not Mesh with an 11 Tooth Starter Ring. Usually the Engines Spec Code in the Model Numbers that will Specify the Correct Starter. Send me the Model and Type or Spec Numbers Off the Engine, Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manual and Better Assist you. You can View a Breakdown of the Engine at this Site Addy; http://www.buykawpower.com/kmcb2c/main.jsp and Select View Parts Catalog. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

QUESTION: the numbers I got from the motor cover is.....code: fc540-as00 and the serial number ..fc540-010964...I hope this is what you were asking for..

Answer
Hello Again Paul:

The AS00(SS0) Designation means the Engine Design is a Self-Servicing OEM Design. If you Contact a JD Dealer, they can Give you the Correct Starter Part Numbers for this Engine. Any Other Designation and I Could have Given you the Correct Starter Part Numbers. If you Go to the Site Addy I Provided Earlier, you can Look Up the Engine. If you Look at the Other FC540 Designators, you will See that All the Other Engines Provide All the Breakdown Information you Require to Purchase Parts. Usually the Serial Numbers are Required when Asking About Parts or Part Numbers for this Engine Designation. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.
