Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Tecumseh 5hp oil leak, tecumseh centura, oil leaks

Question
Dear Sir
I have a Tecumseh Centura 5hp LE Vertical Engine fitted to a lawn mower. It is just over 12 months old. At 11 months old I took the mower to a workshop as the cylinder had filled with oil and you could not pull start the mower (even after draining the cylinder several times). The workshop changed the oil which seemed to solve the problem for a while. Now, at 14 months, a new oiling problem has appeared. During a days worth of mowing, the mower must be refilled with oil twice; much of this oil leaks out from the side? and collects within the mower tray. This leaking seems to be intermittent with the engine belching smoke at the time of incident.
Otherwise, the engine has not lost power and does not smoke on startup.
I believe the engine had developed a cracked ring at the 11 month period, and the problem has simply escalated?
Your help is appreciated.

Answer
Hello Vytas:

I Suggest you Return the Mower and Request Repairs be Made Under Warranty. If the Cylinder is Filling with Oil and Not Gas, then there May be a Broken/Cracked Compression Ring and the Age of the Mower should Allow for Repairs Under Warranty. If you have Problems getting this Repair Performed Under Warranty, Let me Know and I will Assist you in having Tecumseh Authorizing this Repair. Send me the Model and Type or Spec Numbers Off the Engine, Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manual and Better Assist you. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
