Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): wheel horse tractor, wheel horse, key switch

Question
KT17 kohler blows main fuse after 3 sec.unplug volt reg.
does not blow, replace volt reg still same problem,I have checked complete harness for rubbed wires ok my next move
might be new key switch, was told charging system goes through key switch. thank Steve

Answer
The charging system does go through the ignition switch.  Do you have a volt meter?  How is the battery?  I have seen bad batteries cause fuses to blow?  If you have a multimeter, check for shorts to ground.  Follow each wire in the wire harness by hand and remove any parts that hide any wires.  Almost all short I find are located behind a part...this is where the wire rubs bare and causes the short.

Let me know how old the battery is.
