Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Kawasaki FB460V-BS00 (John Deere 165) starter problem, kawasaki fb460v, john deere 165

Question
Dear Ben,

I have John Deere 165 with Kawasaki engine. The engine doesn't always start. Sometimes, when I turn the key, I hear the solenoid clicking but nothing happens. After several trial, it starts and runs fine. I replaced the solenoid thinking it was the problem, but same symptom remains. What is wrong? You help will be appreciated.

Answer
Hello Yongsoon:

Sorry for the Delay. This Question was Located in the Question Pool. Attach a Multimeter to the Battery and Check the Voltage when you Engage the Starter. What is the Battery Voltage Showing when the Ign Switch is Turned to the Start Position when the Solenoid Clicks? What Does the Voltage Show when the Starter Turns? Usually this is a Battery Problem and Since you have Replaced the Solenoid, the Other Possible Cause is Bad Bushings or Brushes in the Starter causing the Starter to have a Dead Spot. When you Hear the Solenoid Clicking it is Also Moving the Starter a Small Amount and Eventually the Starter Moves from the Dead Spot and the Starter will Turn Properly Until the Next Time to Start the Engine. The Starter will Usually Stop on the Dead Spot. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Engine and Mower at this Site Addy, http://jdpc.deere.com/jdpc/servlet/com.deere.u90490.partscatalog.view.servlets.H... and Enter the Model Numbers (165) and Click Find. Then Select your Model from the Search Results Area. Then Select the Sectional File. Then Select the Section of the Mower you Wish to View Online. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
