Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): motion drive belt, replacement belts, model numbers

Question
Hey John,

I recently bought a used craftsman 30 in rear engine mounted riding lawn mower. I have had issues where the belt for the motion drive slips and it would take a bit to get moving forward. So I ordered replacement belts and replaced the blade belt and the motion drive belt today. after replacing the motion belt it started to smoke (white in color) and the belt burnt up. I put the old one back on and it started to smoke itself. any help would be greatful.

Answer
Hello Brett:

From your Description it Sounds like the Belt was Routed so a Belt Guard was Grabbing the Belt or an Idler Pulley has Frozen. Send me the Model Numbers Off the Mower, Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manual and Better Assist you. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
