Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): LX 178 PTO Problem, john deere lx, static electricity

Question
I have a John Deere LX 178 with an electric PTO. Towards the end of the season last year, the PTO would not disengage after I had been mowing for awhile. The problem has gotten worse and right when I start the mower, the PTO will automatically engage without having the switch even on. The switch will momentarily shut the PTO off if I cycle the switch but it then comes back on. The PTO is new as of the begining of last season, and only started to act up after I had been pulling a yard sweeper with the PTO off. Once the motor got warm the PTO came on as I was sweeping. I have already tested the switch and the adjustment of the PTO itself. Any other ideas?

Answer
Hello Phil:

Have you Followed the Wires and made Sure there is Not a Short to the PTO? If you have Set the Clearance and the Switch is Good, then there is a Short in the Wire Harness or the Engine is Not Grounding Good to the Frame. Static Electricity Builds and if the Engine is Not Grounded Good to the Frame this Static Electricity will Engage the PTO. Rust is  Normally the Cause for this Problem. I have a Grounding Strap from the Engine to the Frame on All my Equipment. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
