Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): carburator vacume, electric fuel pump, onan engines

Question
I have a Onan b48m-ga  018/3417a . I am having gas problems. It seems that the vacuum pump is not getting enough vacuum to make the pump suck the gas up into the carburetor. I have open the top of the carburetor and it is not getting gas. I have replaced the pump with a new kit and i still cant get gas to the carburetor. Can you tell me what you think the problem is???

Answer
Hello Jay:

Sorry for the Delay. This Question was Located in the Question Pool. From your Description it can be; 1- the Gas Cap is Not Venting the Tank. 2- the Spring Type Hose Clamps on the Fuel Pump are Bad and Require Replacing with Screw Type Hose Clamps. I Suggest Using an Electric Fuel Pump (Mr Gasket # 12S, which is a 2 to 4 PSI Pump). They Work Better and you Do Not have the Problems from the Electric Fuel Pump that you Do with the Vacuum Fuel Pumps. It is Wired to the Ign Switch so it is Not Running when the Ign Switch is in the Off Position. 3- Weak Vacuum from the Engine Not Pulling Enough Vacuum to Operate the Vacuum Fuel Pump. Install an Electric Fuel Pump. You can get More Information About Onan Engines from this Site Addy; http://www.tulsaenginewarehouse.com/catalog/onan/ and Select 1 of the Engines Listed or Select www.smallengines.cc for Older Units or www.smallenginebusiness.com for Newer Units. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
