Mercedes Benz repair: Starting 82 Mercedes 300 SD, jumper cables, trunk locks

Question
How can I start my 82 Merc 300 SD? When I try to charge the dead battery the hazard lights flash and the compresser (I think) goes on. It's sat for 1-2 years and the battery used to drain overnight.

The charger needs to be minimum 300 AMP, and leave it charging two or three hours, if the battery will accept any charge.

You should replace the battery with a new one.
After two years setting dead, there is high risk that the charging circuit will be damaged, if you manage to start the car.

The lights flash because the alarm is on.
The vacuum pump is running because there is signal from one of the door/trunk locks.
