Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Chainsaw, link pins, cut time

Question
Hi there,
I recently had the chains for my chain saw sharpened at a local hardware store.  When I got the chains back, I put one back on the saw.  They seemed very dull and would hardly cut at all.  My wife checked with the man at the hardware store.  He said I may have to "file my blade" to make the chains fit better.  Does this sound right?  The saw is brand new and only has about 8 hours of cut time on it.  It is a Craftsman 55cc 20-inch saw.
Thanks!
Dan

Answer
Hello Dan:

Find Another Shop! If the Chain is Sharpened Correctly, it will Cut like a New Chain Until it becomes Worn Again. The Only Filing you May have to do is to the Bar. Sometimes as the Bar Wears, an Edge Forms from the Metal Against Metal Wear and has to be Filed Off so the Chain is Not Catching on the Bar as it Turns. The Edge I am Speaking of is the Outer Edges of the Bar where the Chain Rides. This Edge can Catch the Chains Link Pins and Cause Drag. Have the Chains Checked at Another Shop and Make Sure they were Properly Sharpened. Also, I have to Ask; Are you Sure you Put the Chain on the Saw Properly? To View a Breakdown of this Unit Go to this Site Addy, http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action and Enter the Model Numbers and Click Search. From this Page you can View Diagrams and Parts Lists for you Equipment Using the "View Sub Components" Section. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
