Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): gocart, arinet, american honda

Question
I just got my son a go cart so we can get him into racing.  the go cart I bought is an older one and needs, what I think a lot of work however I'm not a mechanic.  It had an eight horse power honda motor (GX240) andI cant get it started. I could also use some Ideas on how to run a throtle and make some brakes. If you could help me and my boy in any way we would apprecate it. If you have a diagram of the motor and how things work that would help out alot.

Answer
Hello Rockford:

You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Mower/Engine at this Site Addy, http://hayward.arinet.com/scripts/EmpartISAPI.dll?MF&app=ASP&lang=EN&TF=Mainfram... and Select the Catalog American Honda. The Brake System on the Older Go-Carts was a Simple Metal Plate, Usually 3 to 4 Inches Wide and 6 to 8 Inches Long that Pushed Against the Rubber Tread of the Tire and Stopped the Cart from Moving. A Rod from the Brake Pedal Moved the Braking Plate and a Spring at the Brake Pedal or Somewhere Attached to the Brake Released the Brake Plate from the Tire when the Pedal was Released. The Throttle Cable is Usually Attached to the Governor Arm Using the Same Spring that was Originally Attached to the Throttle Control Plate and Pulls the Governor Arm. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
