Craftsman Model 917.251472
6 Speed, 1 Reverse.

I have a Craftsman Tractor model 917.251472. I has got to where if I am  running in any gear  the tractor will just stop after a few minutes of running as if the belt is slipping. Put on a new belt and it does the same thing. I can push in the clutch/brake petal and let it pop out and them the tractor will take off and in a minute or two it will stop again. Pop the clutch and away I go. Doesn’t matter if I’m cutting grass or not, it does the same thing. Any ideas of whats going on? Your help is appreciated.

Have you Lubricated the Clutch Idler Arm? Does the Clutch Spring have Good Tension. From this Page you can View Diagrams or Parts Lists for you Equipment. From your Description it Sounds like the Clutch Idler is Slowly Releasing the Tension on the Belt. If the Spring is Weak or the Idle is Dry and Gritty, you will have this Problem Also. The Vibration from the Engine and Mower Cause the Idler Bracket to Grab the Frame and Slowly Ratchet Itself Loose.
