Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Honda G200 surging, honda g200, ngk spark plug

Question
John, I have an old (mid 80's) Honda G200 on a log splitter. Problem is
constant surging. I have drained the gas and put fresh gas in, new NGK spark
plug, popped off the flywheel to check the keyway, put on a new carburator
(no change between old & new carburator). I have run it without the air filter
on. I put on a new muffler after the old 1 burnt out.(ran the same, just
LOUDER) Also ran it with gas cap
loose. Gas line between tank & carburator is a clear line so I can see the gas is
flowing freely. What am I missing here? Thanks. Jerry

Answer
Hello Jerry:

1- Did you Remove/Loosen the Governor Arm from the Governor Shaft when you Replaced the Carburetor? If Yes, then the Governor May Require Setting.  If you Removed the Governor Arm to Remove the Carburetor, then Reset the Governor. **To Reset the Governor; Loosen the Governor Arm Bolt and Turn the Governor Shaft Clockwise Until it Stops. Using the Governor Arm Hold the Carburetor to Full Throttle. Now with the Shaft Full Clockwise and the Governor Arm and Carburetor Held at Full Throttle, Tighten the Governor Arm Bolt. If the Engine Still Runs Full Throttle, then Reverse the Rotation of the Governor Shaft, but Still Hold the Carburetor at Full Throttle with the Governor Arm. If it Still Runs at Full Throttle, then Check the Internal Governor.** 2- If this Engine has the Cam Chain, then Stretch in the Chain will Cause the Surge. Send me the Complete Model Numbers of the Engine, Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manuals and Better Assist you. I Used the First G200 ngine File at the Following Site Addy as a Reference. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Mower/Engine at this Site Addy, http://hayward.arinet.com/scripts/EmpartISAPI.dll?MF&app=ASP&lang=EN&TF=Mainfram... and Select the Catalog American Honda. Then Select the Engine File. Then Select your Model from the List Provided. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
