Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): primier bulb, carburetor body, adjustment screws

Question
QUESTION: i have a lawnmower that will not primer. i have removed the air filter to see if any gas is being pushed into the carb, and i see nothing going in i have tried it several times (primering), but no gas any suggestions on what to try. it was empty for the winter time, and have since added gas. this is the first year i have this problem.  it's a briggs and straton push mower

ANSWER: Hello Leo:

The Primer/Choke Passage in the Carburetor is Restricted and Requires Cleaning. The Only Sure Way to Clean this is to  **Remove, Disassemble and Soak the Carburetor Overnight in Carburetor Cleaner (I Use Gunk). I have Found that Most People can Use a Breakdown/IPL and Disassemble the Carburetor Enough for Proper Cleaning. You Only have to Remove the Bowl (if Applicable), Float Pin (if Applicable), Float (if Applicable)  and Needle Valve and Any Adjustment Screws that Go Into the Carburetor Body. The Welch Plugs Do Not have to be Removed. Then Soak the Carburetor Body and Parts in a 1 Gallon Can of Gunk Carburetor Cleaner Overnight. The Can has a Parts Tray Inside it for the Small Parts. Once the Carburetor and Parts are in the Cleaner, you can Replace the Lid for Safety and to Prevent Accidental Spillage. Then Blow Out the Passages with Compressed Air. Install New Parts if Required.** You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Unit at this Site Addy; http://www.briggsandstratton.com/maint_repair/manual_and_more/doclist.aspx?categ and Enter the Model Numbers (XXXXXX) and Type Numbers (XXXX) in the Appropriate Boxes and Click GO. Then Select Download PDF. Send me the Model and Type or Spec Numbers Off the Engine, Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manual and Better Assist you. The Model Numbers May be Stamped Into the Blower Housing (metal engine cover) Above the Spark Plug. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck

QUESTION: ok here it goes i have another lawnmower which is about 7 yrs old., but only use it about 5 months a year once every 2 weeks.  The other day, i gased it up checked the oil and the air filter, everything was ok. but when i went to turn it on nothing happened.  all you could hear was just a wining sound like if there was no life in it. continued to try it over again and same result. the sound it made was that of like when you wind up a toy car and let it go sort of like that. the next day i tried it again and this time i couldn't even pull the cord. it seemed like it was jammed ,since then it's been the same way, can't even pull the cord, but when i pull it softly and give it a small tug it releases more of the cord ,the more and more small tugs the more it lets out, but still nothing. your knowledge helped me out with my other lawnmower, i'm just hoping you might be able to help again with any troubleshooting or anything. it's a briggs and stratton 3.75 hps. with a bag.  oh, i also after all of this tried to turn the blade with my hands and it would only go about 3/4 around before jamming up. i don't know whether that means anything or not thanks again

Answer
Hi Again Leo:

I am Glad I was Able to Assist you with the Other Mower Problem. On this Mower Problem; First Remove the Cylinder Head and Turn the Engine (you said you finally got it to Turn 3/4 Turn). Does the Piston Move? If Not, then the Crankshaft is Bent. On Some Engines you can Remove the Spark Plug and Insert a Pencil and Watch the Pencil while you Turn the Engine. If the Pencil Moves Outward, then the Piston is Moving. Send me the Model and Type or Spec Numbers Off the Engine, Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manual and Better Assist you. The Model Numbers May be Stamped Into the Blower Housing (metal engine cover) Above the Spark Plug. From your Description it Sounds like the Connecting Rod has Broken. The Model Numbers will Tell me this. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.
