Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): adjusted gcv160 governor, still need help, honda gcv 160, air mixture

Question
previous Q/A: http://en.allexperts.com/q/Small-Engines-Lawn-1746/2008/4/gvc160-won-t-idle.htm

the engine in question is a Honda GCV-160-ABHH

i did reset the governor. turning the governor closewise and tightening the governor arm helped a lot, but did not solve the problem completely.

is there a mixture set screw on this engine? There seems to be a idle adjustment and another set screw that only turns about 90 degs (however this one doesn't seem to make much of a difference where it is set)

any other suggestions. i haven't tried a 24hr soak of the carb yet, looking for other simple things to try first.

Answer
Hello Mark:

LOL. You are Doing Fine. The Simplest Items First is Good. I have the Possible Causes Listed in the Order that they Occur Most Often. According to the Breakdown, this Model has the Idle Air Mixture Screw Only. The Plastic Limiter Cap is Broken Off and then the Screw is Removed During the Soaking and Cleaning Process. Then the Carburetor is Re-Assembled and this Set Screw is then Set (Usually the Service Center will Replace the Limiter Cap on the Idle Air Mixture Screw. It is Not Required for Proper Operation). Use the Section that Pertains to the Idle Air Mixture Screw in the Following Instruction File.  Now Setting the Air Mixture Screws:  ****Turn the Idle Air and Main Air Mixture Screws In Until SNUG **Do Not Jam** Then Reverse Both Screws 1 1/2 Turns. Holding the Throttle Full Open, Start the Engine. Turn the Main Air Mixture Screw Clockwise Until Proper Revs are Obtained. Occasionally you May have to Turn this Counter Clockwise to Achieve the Proper Revs. Now Allow the Engine to Idle. Set the Engine Idle Screw (Not Idle Air) so the Engine will Stay Running if Required. Now Set the Idle Air Mixture Screw so there is No Hesitation when Throttling from Idle to Full Throttle. Reset the Engine Idle if Required.**** If you Can Not Correct the Surge/Hunting at Idle, then the Carburetor is Dirty or the Timing Belt has Jumped 1 Tooth One of the Sprockets. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Mower/Engine at this Site Addy, http://hayward.arinet.com/scripts/EmpartISAPI.dll?MF&app=ASP&lang=EN&TF=Mainfram... and Select the Catalog American Honda. Then Select Engine. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
