Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): John Deere Model 650 Diesel tractor, john deere tractor, john deere model

Question
I have a 1986 John Deere Tractor 650, 2 cyl in line, valve in head diesel engine.
Changed the oil and filter, as well as fuel filter for spring time use.
Afterwards, bled fuel lines, started up and noticed that there is considerable engine power loss (from 2500 rpm to about 1500 rpm) when I engaged the bottom mower deck which is powered by an electric switch that turns on the pto.  Any thoughts?
Thanks-
Greg
