Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman 5 HP Wood Chipper, engine model type, paul thanks

Question
QUESTION: I have the above unit (no model number is listed anywhere on the machine!) with a 5HP B&S engine.  I sheared a couple of housing bolts on it and it appears one is jamming the flywheel. To look at the engine, I need to remove the shredder assembly. It appears to be pressed on, but I can't seem to remove it. I tried a puller, tapping to bolt while applying upward pressure to the assembly etc.. None worked. Any advice?

ANSWER: Hello Paul:

A Model Number would Help me Assist you Better. Go to this Site Addy, http://www3.sears.com/ and Use the Model Locator at the Lower Left of the Page. Also, I May be Able to Assist you if you Send me the Engine Model Type and Code Numbers. They should be Located on the Blower Housing (Metal engine cover) Across from the Spark Plug. Thanks.

QUESTION: model number is 247.79595

ANSWER: Hello Again Paul:

Thanks for the Model Numbers. Use a Torch (Small Butane) and Heat the Impeller Around the Shaft, while Applying Pressure with the Puller and Hitting the Puller at the Same Time. A Small Amount of Heat will Expand (and Not Damage) the Impeller and Loosen it from the Shaft. DO NOT TURN THE METAL RED!!! Just Heat it Enough to Allow for the Removal of the Impeller from the Shaft. When Re-Installing the Impeller, Apply Never Seize to the Shaft before Impeller Installation. The Never Seize will Keep the Impeller from Seizing to the Shaft and Allow for Easy Removal in the Future. QUESTION: John,
Thanks for your help - we got it off (I'm a NYC fireman and a bunch of us worked together on it). One more quick question. There is a keyway on the shaft, which we can now see since we have the shredding unit off of the shaft. Is there a key when you put it back on or is it just pressed on? There does not appear to be one in the owner's manual nor did there seem to be one when we took it off. Thanks again for your invaluable help.

Answer
Hi Paul:

If the Shaft is Tapered, then there is No Key Stock or Woodruff Key Used. If the Shaft is Not Tapered, then there should be a Key Way Machined Into the Shaft. Sometimes Under Extreme Conditions, the Key Shears and the Shaft will Look as though it has No Key Way. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Hi Again Paul:

I Forgot to Mention that Sometimes the Key is a Part of the Impeller. Thanks.
