Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Murry Lawn Mower Brake Adjustment, question pool, select shop

Question
I have a 2000 Murray Lawn Mower Model 42514X8A with a briggs 14.5HP engine. The brake isn't very good and doesn't stop the mower very well. Is there some way to adjust the brake? I notice a small brake disc however wasn't sure if there was some adjustment that could be made to the linkage or would I need to replaced the disc? I looked a parts catalog online but couldn't find that disc as a replaceable part.

Answer
Hello Tommy:

Sorry for the Delay. This Question was Located in the Question Pool. On the Brake Disc you Saw on the Transaxle; Tighten the Center Adjusting Nut Until SNUG. Loosen the Adjuster Nut 1/8 Turn and Try the Brakes. If Braking is Not to your Satisfaction, then Adjust the Center Adjusting Nut on the Disc Brake Assembly Slightly (1/8" at a time) Until the Proper Braking is Achieved. Go to this Site Addy, http://www.smallenginepartswarehouse.com/parts.asp and Select Shop Online Parts Look Up. Then Select the Model Tab. Then Select the OEM (Murray) and Enter the Model Numbers. Then Double Click on your Model in the Results Area. Then Select the Section of the Unit you Wish to View. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
