Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman 917.258492 Brack question, craftsman 917, dana transaxle

Question
Hello! I have just completed adjusting brakes and confirming the brake pads on the Dana Transaxle 4360-42. The tractor is not stopping within the specified distance in the manual. I have tested setting the parking brake and I can still push the mower with very little resistance. I confirmed visually the friction disk is not moving but the transaxle still moves with the brake set! I have a parts diagram and can't figure out what could be worn out. The transaxle shifts and moves soothly otherwise. Can you guide me to a solution?

Thank you.

Answer
Hello Charles:

You are Adjusting the Brake Disc and Not the Linkage, Right? If Yes, then Tighten the Center Adjusting Nut on the Disc Brake Assembly Slightly (1/8" at a time) Until the Proper Braking is Achieved. The Instructions in the Manual are Designed to get the Brakes "Close" to the Proper Setting. Once you get the Inital Setting, then you have to Adjust as Required. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
