Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Troy-Bilt LTX-1842 transmission maintenance?, variable speed pulley, input shaft

Question
QUESTION: A simple question for you.  Is there any user-capable maintenance that can be done with the transmission/transaxle on this mower?  Any fluids that can or should be changed?  Any zerk fittings that can be greased?  I'd rather not haul the whole mower into the shop (and deal with their service backlog) if I can.  I don't see anything in the manual that says there's anything I can do other than oil/oil filter/air filter on the engine and grease the front axle spindles and axles.  Nothing noted for the back end.

The reason I ask is that a few years back the mower sat out in the rain for a season and so bad treatment coupled with a bad design allowed water to seize the transaxle through the vertical input shaft (I think).  I'd like to keep things as lubricated as I can to keep it happy now.

Thanks.

ANSWER: Hello Brian:

If this is a Model Number 13AP609G063 LXT1842, then Go to this Site Addy, http://www.jackssmallengines.net/parts.asp and Select Shop Online Parts Look Up. Then Select the Model Tab and Enter the OEM (Troy Bilt)and the Model Numbers 13AP609G063. Now Double Click on your Model in the Results Area. Other than the Components you Listed, I can Only Suggest you Lightly Lubricate the Idler Bracket Pivot and Possibly the Center Sheave (where it slides) of the Variable Speed Pulley. On the Variable Speed Pulley; Make Sure you Do Not Use Too Much Oil. You Simply want the Center Sheave to Move Freely from One Side of the Pulley to the Other. Also, I Agree with you on the Shifter Design. I Feel there is Room for Improvement in the Design of the Shifter. QUESTION: Just to be sure.  There is no provision for adding grease or oil or other lubricants to the transaxle?

Trying to be as complete as I can for preventative maintenance.

Thank you very much!
