Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Kohler 18HP - Ride on Mower- Australia, spec numbers, kohler engines

Question
Just over 2 years old, running once a week
The battery has failed, When I jump start it, it runs until I remove the jump leads, Is the alternator faulty ?

Answer
Hello Nick:

Send me the Model and Type or Spec Numbers Off the Engine, Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manual and Better Assist you. The Model Numbers May be Stamped Into the Blower Housing (metal engine cover) Above the Spark Plug. Depending on the Model this Engine May have a Voltage Regulator. If it Does, then the Regulator May be Bad. You can Use the Charging System Check from this Site Addy; http://faqs.custhelp.com/rnt/rnw/img/enduser/105-AC_DC_test_chart.jpg . This is for Briggs Engines, but it can be Used for Kohler Engines Also. When you Disconnect the Jumper Battery, there is Not Enough Charge in the Battery to Keep the Carburetor Solenoid Open and the Solenoid Shut Off the Gas to the Carburetor Jet. This Shuts Off the Engine. Never Jump a Mower Engine from Another Unit (car, truck, ect) if the Other Units Engine is Running. This Causes a Back Feed to the Stator and Usually Pops the Diode and then the Stator/AlternatorRegulator has to be Replaced. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
