Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): battery not charging, briggs stratton, proper manuals

Question
QUESTION: i have a problem with my battery not charging on my mower with briggs & stratton motor

ANSWER: Hello John:

Depending on the Model, it May be the Stator/Alternator or the Voltage Regulator. Send me the Model Numbers Off the Unit and the Model, Type or Spec Numbers Off the Engine, Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manuals and Better Assist you. The Model Numbers May be Stamped Into the Blower Housing (metal engine cover) Above the Spark Plug. Thanks.

QUESTION: the model # is 42E707

type 1631-01

code 9612045A

Answer
Hello Again John:

If you are Sure the Battery is Good and Does Not have a Weak/Bad Cell, then the Alternator/Stator is Bad. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Engine at this Site Addy, http://www.smallenginepartswarehouse.com/parts.asp and Select the Shop Online Parts Look Up. Then Select the Model Tab. Then Select the OEM and Enter the Model (5 or 6 Digits) and Type Numbers (first 4 digits Only). Example: 42E707-1631. Then Double Click on the Model in the Results Area. Now you can Select the Section of the Engine you Wish to View. Select the Alternator, Controls Wires, Ignition File. The Alternator/Stator (B&S PN 696459)is the Cause of the Not Charging Problem on this Model Engine. The Alternator/Stator has the Voltage Regulator Built in. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
