Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): gear ratio, hp briggs, proper manuals

Question
QUESTION: i have a montgomery ward riding lawn mower . it has a 12 hp briggs and straton engine . i want to change the gear ratio so it will go really fast . once i take the rear end apart , how do i figure out what gears to change, and also where would i go to get the right gears? also could i do this myself or would need to take it somewhere to have them pressed on?    thanks so much if you can answer

ANSWER: Hello Nate:

You May have Problems Locating the Right Gears to Accomplish this Task. I Suggest you Change the Pulleys. Use a Larger Pulley on the Engine and a Smaller Pulley on the Transaxle. The Faster the Transaxle Input Shaft Turns, the Faster the Ground Speed of the Unit will be. On the Transaxle is an OEM Identification Plate. Send me the Information Off of This Plate, Please. With this Information, I can Locate the Proper Manuals and Better Assist You. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

QUESTION: hey john  thanks for getting back to me on my last question so quick. I have the numbers off the axle , there where two that i found. First # 719-0313   second #  model# 618-0166.   The other numbers i have are off the engine , model # 284707  type # 014701  code # 9504204E. What i should say is ive taken the mower deck off and really all i want is for this thing to go faster with out to much expense , its really meant to be like one of my toys. This may or maynot be what you can help me with ,or give any information on , but if you can give me any help at all i will send you pictures or video . Thanks so much

Answer
Hello Again Nate:

I Understood the Reason for Changing the Transaxle Gear Ratio. Most Transaxles Use the Same Gear Ration. I have an Old Mower for Going from the House to the Mail Box (1/2 Mile). In Order to Get a Faster Ground Speed, I had to Change the Transaxle Pulley to a Smaller Pulley. The Transaxle Numbers Look like Peerless Transaxle Numbers. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Engine at this Site Addy, http://www.outdoordistributors.com/ and Select the P. Then Select Peerless. Then Select To View Parts List Click Here in the Upper Right of the Page. Then Select the Series Transaxle (700 or 600). Then Select the Transaxle File for your Transaxle (700-719 or 600-618). If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.
