Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): ECHO chainsaw CS-4400, echo chainsaw, warm soapy water

Question
Hey Howard, I created my own problem. I put gas in where the oil goes and oil where the gas goes. In the process of fixing the problem I took the top off to blow the carb out and there was a filter about the size of a dime and a short small line on it and it was not connected to nothing. Can you tell me where this connects to?

I washed the gas tank out good and then started the saw with starter fluid, but I had to the starter fluid to keep it running. What is the best way to clean this mess up?

Answer
Hey Hi Donnie O,

My-my... I had to let [what was described about your maintenance scene] just sink in and work itself around this old cranium for a while.  It sounds like you chose a 'bad hair day' to embark on your small engine repair gone bad journey.

Okay, so a mix-up occurred and there seems to be some repercussions still affecting the performance of your Echo chainsaw.  Luckily, echo builds a fairly sturdy line of lawn and garden machinery, and so I don't believe the damage is permanent.  That being said, The gas in the oil compartment might be the problematic situation here.  You need to ensure that you clean [with a shop towel or rag] any surface that the gasoline contacted that was meant for oil only.  The carburetor can be washed using just plain warm soapy water.  The part described in your message doesn't seem too familiar to me.

Good Luck
Howard
