Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): carb leak, rubber gasket, float bowl

Question
i have a gocart that did not run i cleaned carburetor added gas and it started leaking lots i put it together right but its leaking i am wondering could it be the float because i had to take plug out to clean

Answer
Hey Cody,

I've come across similar carb-leak situations with many mowers that I've repaired.  In many cases there is a circular rubber gasket that sits between the bowl and the top of the carb. Over time that gasket needs to be replaced.  When you unscrew the 'fuel-bowl retaining nut' this should expose the gasket that I'm referring to. The only other item to check is if the float is working improperly and the gas is rising to high within the float bowl then there might be some spillage. Check it out!
