Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Snowblower engine to cultivator, hp briggs, roto tiller

Question
Hi, I have an old snowblower with a 5 HP Briggs (130202 0237 2)  Engine. I
would like to transfer this engine to my rototiller this spring. I am sure it will
fit but not sure if there are any obvious questions because it is from a
snowblower. Any thoughts?

Doug

Answer
Dear Doug,

This question is slightly more technical than one might think [on the face of it].  Remember Doug, one thing. That is the force at which your 5 HP engine needs to function [as a snowblower] will be fairly higher working as a Rototiller.  It seems to me that a Rototiller engine /motor has a significantly  higher mechanical force requirement, due to the type of work performed [turning over dirt].  I'd be checking for specifications of the engine with a shop that sells roto-tillers.  If they agree with the engine switch then it could work.  I don't know off-hand a roto-tiller engine spec's, thinking about the Roto-Tillers I've used, they've all had fairly large [powerful] engines.

Good Luck,

Howard
