Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman 16 hp Kohler Model # 917-272058, hp kohler, solinoid

Question
My Craftsman LT 1000 has had a battery problem from the beginning.  I had to replace the battery every spring for the past 3 years.  This year I guess the battery went dead again, only this time when I bought another one, when I turned the key there was nothing. No click, no grind, nothing.  Checked the battery, it was OK, I did find that the fuse was blown.  I bought 5 fuses and have blown everyone trying to start it.  As soon as I turn the key the fuse blows.  Can you help me?

Sounds like you may have a short in the starting circuit.Which will cause the battery to drain down.I am enclosing a parts break down so you can follow the wiring. Check the starter and the starting solinoid. You can jump the solenoid to see if the starter turns. If you get a big spark and it doesn't move your starter may be stuck or burnt.
