Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): 247 rotex, plug fire, gas tank

Question
I HAVE AN VINTAGE ELAN WITH A 247 ROTEX ENGING. IT STARTS FINE WHEN IT'S COLD, RUNS FINE FOE ABOUT 15 0R 30 MINUTES. IT THEN WANTS TO DIE OUT AND WILL. THEN IT WILL NOT START UNTIL IT SITS FOR FOR A WHILE. HAVE YOU HEARS OF THIS BEFORE?

Answer
Hello Craig:

There are 3 Possible Causes for this Problem. 1- The cas Tank Cap is Not Venting the Tank and a Vaccum Build and Restricts the Gas Flow to the carburetor. 2- If the Engine has a Point Set Under the Flywheel, then the Condensor is Heating Up and the Plug Quits Firing. 3- If the Engine has the magnetron (Solid State Ign Coil), then the Coil is Heating Up and Stops Firing the Plug. When the Engine Quits; Does the Plug Fire? Remove the Spark Plug. Wrap a Wire Around the Threads and Attach the Other End of the Wire to the Engine Block. Turn the Engine and See if the Plug Fires. If No Fire, then Replace the Point Set or the Coil/Magnetron. If there is Fire, then Check the Gas Tank Cap. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Good Luck
