Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Tecumseh 4 cycle 5 hp HSSK50-67340R, recoil starter, starter rope

Question
The starter rope on the rewind starter on my snowblower ( model # above ) has stuck , so I can not get the unit started . How can I get the rope released ?

Answer
Hello Neil:

You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Engine at this Site Addy, http://www.outdoordistributors.com/ and Select the T. Then Select Tecumseh. Then Select Don't have Part Numbers. Then Enter the Model Numbers (HSSK50-67340R). Then Select your Model and Download the File for Online Viewing. Remove the Recoil Starter (#390 PN 590707) from the Engine. You May have to Remove the Blower Housing (#260 PN 35656A, metal engine cover) to Access the Recoil Starter Screws. According to the Breakdown, this Starter is a Non Serviceable Recoil Starter. You can Replace the Rope, but Not the Spring or Pawls. Once the Recoil Starter has been Removed from the Engine; Check the Starter Pawls and Make Sure they are Moving Freely when you Pull the Starter Rope. The Starter Rope May be Frayed and Locking the Recoil Pulley from Moving. If the Starter Turnes Properly when the Starter is Off the Engine, then there is another Cause for the Engine Not Turning. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Have a Happy Holiday Season and May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.

Good Luck
