Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman Lawn Tractor- transaxle, craftsman lawn tractor, shift forks

Question
Model 917 272670, SR# 032103B006377 TransAxle Dana 4360-140
This tractor was being rolled up into a truck (not running) and it got away from the guys loading it.  Instead of putting on the brake, one of the guys pulled it into reverse from neutral as it rolled backwards.  Now rear wheels are locked. The gear shift will move into gear, and depressing the clutch does not do anything. I suspect it is in the miter gears or clutch keys. I have rebuilt engines and am not afraid to tear this down and rebuild.  Any thoughts, advice or special tools I need to consider before starting? Unit has less than 100 hrs and is like new.

Answer
I agree with you, I am speculating that the shift forks may be bent or the reverse idler gear is jammed into the cluster gear.

Go to the Sears website... www.partsdirect and get a visual of your tranny.... Shouldn't have any problems...Sometimes Digitals pics help before disassembly!

Good Luck!
