Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): camshaft gear alignment, cam point, honda gx

Question
I have just replaced the rings on my Honda GX 140 (from EG2200 generator) and am having difficulty figuring how to align the camshaft gear with relation to piston position.  There is an imprinted dot on the camshaft gear at the exhaust cam point but I can't find anything to align this to - I assembled it with the piston at TDC and the dot on the cam gear at the highest point - the engine will not run - sounds like valve timing is all goofy.  Help!

Answer
Hello Mike:

I Suggest to Anyone with a Honda Engine Powered Equipment to Purchase the Service Manual for the Engine they have. It has All the Information that is Required to Keep the Engine Running Like New for a Long Time. It will Also have the Correct Procedure for Setting the Cam and Crankshaft Timing Marks. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Mower/Engine at this Site Addy, http://hayward.arinet.com/scripts/EmpartISAPI.dll?MF&app=ASP&lang=EN&TF=Mainfram... and Select the Catalog American Honda. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Have a Happy Holiday Season and May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.

Good Luck
