Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): gear alignment, cam shaft, cam lobe

Question
hi john,on my crankshaft gear there is a letter g but it is not on the teeth.what does this letter g mean?also on this crankshaft gear there is a dot on one of the teeth .
on my camshaft gear  there is a number three on the same side as the cam lobe that opens and closes the valves.on the other side of this gear there is a line between the two teeth.there is also a small hole in this camshaft.
Is this way the correct way of timing these gears up.the teeth with the dot ,does this line up with that line on the camshaft?now with the governor gear.does this has to be line up with the cam shaft gear?i know that i have to put that governor arm on top of the governor spool  so it will function properly.                                tvs90 43368f ser 8342r is the model number.i am using this engine just for learning about the inside, and how things work.thank you for your help.your information is something i will always remember, and used for this engine and other engines as well.

Answer
Hello Again Greg:

Thanks for the Good Words and the Ratings. The Small Letter is a Mold ID Number/Letter. Line the Dot to the Line on the Cam Gear. The Governor Rests on the Cam and has a Molded Area of the Sump/Oil Pan that it Rests In when the Sump is Installed Onto the Crankcase. If you are Making Sure the Governor Thru Shaft is Resting in the Governor Button when the Sump is Installed, then the Governor is Lined Up Properly. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Engine at this Site Addy, http://www.outdoordistributors.com/ and Select the T. Then Select Tecumseh. Then Select Don't have Part Numbers. Then Enter the Model Numbers. Then Select your Model and Download the File for Online Viewing. Since this is a Tecumseh Engine, I have a PDF Site Addy that May Assist you Also. http://www.tecumsehpower.com/CustomerService/BSI.pdf If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Have a Happy Holiday Season and May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.

Good Luck
