ben, i need to change the auger and drive belts on my troybuilt snowblower unit#420100101624 with an 8hp tech.eng #hmsk804554497s[d]3295a i'm not sure if the auger drive shaft has to come out to remove the belts the shaft sticks out just enough to stop the belts from coming off easily

You may have a model that breaks apart in the middle. If so, loosen the bottom bolts on each side just behind the auger housing. Remove the top two bolts, push down on the handles and the blower will break in half making belts easy to change. The other types of blowers allow you to remove the bottom cover and top cover and you just slip belts between the pulleys
