Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Sears Craftsman 6.5 HP B&S Engine Model 123K02, carburetor body, sears craftsman

Question
QUESTION: I have a Sears self-propelled walk-behind leaf vacuum.  It won't start.  Last time I used it, I noticed that the choke control was not working normally.  That is, when I placed it it the run position, the motor shut off.  I suspect an issue with the choke or governor linkage (perhaps caused by vibration).  I see that the governor linkage has one spring connected to it, but the action of the linkage does not seem right to me.  Any ideas?  How should the linkage work?  One spring or two?  Any help is greatly appreciated.

ANSWER: Hello Jerry:

The Carburetor Requires a Good Soak and Cleaning.  Remove, Disassemble and Soak the Carburetor Overnight in Carburetor Cleaner (I Use Gunk). I have Found that Most People can Use a Breakdown/IPL and Disassemble the Carburetor Enough for Proper Cleaning. You Only have to Remove the Bowl, Float Pin, Float (if Applicable)  and Needle Valve and Any Adjustment Screws that Go Into the Carburetor Body. The Welch Plugs Do Not have to be Removed. Then Soak the Carburetor Body and Parts in a 1 Gallon Can of Gunk Carburetor Cleaner Overnight. The Can has a Parts Tray Inside it for the Small Parts. Once the Carburetor and Parts are in the Cleaner, you can Replace the Lid for Safety and to Prevent Accidental Spillage. Then Blow Out the Passages with Compressed Air. Install New Parts if Required. Send me the Model Numbers Off the Mower, Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manual and Better Assist you. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

QUESTION: The model number for the leaf vacuum is 247.770990.  Though it is a Sears Craftsman, I believe it is actually a TroyBilt.  I've removed the carb, but have to purchase a gallon of cleaner from my local auto parts store.  The inside of the bowl looked spotless, but I will give it a good soak anyway.

Answer
Hello Again Jerry:

The Problem you Described is Usually Caused by the Carburetor being Dirty and the Internal Passages Restricted. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Engine at this Site Addy, http://www.smallenginepartswarehouse.com/parts.asp and Select the Shop Online Parts Look Up. Then Select the Model Tab. Then Select the OEM and Enter the Model and Type Numbers (first 4 digits Only). Then Double Click on the Model in the Results Area. Now you can Select the Section of the Engine you Wish to View. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.
