Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman 4-cycle 9 hp snowblower engine, crankshaft diameter, double groove

Question
QUESTION: I have a craftsman 9.0 hp 26 inch dual stage, 120v electric start snowthrower Model # 536.886260 with a craftsman 4-cycle engine model # 143.999001 that I want to replace. What other type of direct fit engine can I  replace this with.

ANSWER: Hello John:

There are Replacement Engines that will Bolt Right Up. Do you have a Certain OEM that you Wish to Replace this Engine With? I Had a Question Similar to this for a Kohler Engine. I Contacted Tecumseh and they Off No Specifications for a Replacement Engine. Remove the Old Engine and Measure the Crankshaft Diameter and Length. Send me these Measurements and I May be Able to Locate a Replacement from these Measurements. Also, Does the Crankshaft have a Single Groove, Double Groove. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem, I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck

ANSWER: Hello Again John:

I Have Located my Microfiche for this Snow Thrower. I Must have Mistyped the Model Numbers when I was at the Sears Web Site. This is a BUILT Pulley. You can Purchase the Components to BUILD Another Pulley at the Sears Web Site for $46.66us Plus Shipping and Handling. Go to this Site Addy, http://www3.sears.com/ and Enter the Model Numbers in the Upper Left Search Box and Click Go. Then Visually Verify the Equipment and Click Continue. From this Page you can View Diagrams or Parts Lists for you Equipment. Select the Frame Assembly and Look at the Diagram. It Shows the Pulley in a Breakdown Form. The Breakdown Numbers you will Require to Build a New Pulley are: #45- PN 762291, #53- PN 579854, #54- PN 579861, #58- PN 712120, # #59- PN 586251, #60- PN 586253, #67- PN 50677, #68- PN 71063, and #69- PN 71015. These Components and Part Numbers are Required to BUILD the New Pulley for your Snow Thrower. I Do Appoligize for Not Getting this Correct During Our First Conversation. As I Stated Earlier, I may have Entered a Wrong Digit when I First Looked for the Model at the Sears Site. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

QUESTION: Thanks again for the response, but I think something was lost from the original question, which was "I have a craftsman 9.0 hp 26 inch dual stage, 120v electric start snowthrower Model # 536.886260 with a craftsman 4-cycle engine model # 143.999001 that I want to replace. What other type of direct fit engine can I  replace this with." Your last response deals with building a pulley. Still seeking the answer to this question

Answer
Hi John:

I was Trying to Multitask when I was Answering a Few Questions and I Sent the Wrong Answer to the Wrong Person. I Apologize for the Mistake. I Will Not Multitask Again. Do Not Like it and it Gets Very Confusing. Now for a Replacement Engine. The Measurements you Sent are for a Standard Engine (not a Special Application Engine). Most of the 5 to 12 HP Briggs and Stratton, Tecumseh, and Kohler Engines will Bolt Up and Replace the Bad Engine. I will Check on Monday 11/26/07 for a Model Number that you can Use. All my Resources are Closed for the Holidays and I want to be Certain I have the Correct Model Numbers to Give you. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Have a Happy Holiday Season and May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.
