Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Murray drive pulley, woodruff key, drive pulley

Question
QUESTION: I have a 42" Murray riding lawn mower with a 17.5 B & S engine.Model number is 425001X8B.
The drive pulley on the trans axle has been damaged with lots of wear as the woodruff key has wallowed out part of the pulley. The pulley won't stay in position and keeps throwing the belt.
The owner's manual diagram shows a woodruff key on the shaft as a separate part. However, in inspecting the key it appears to be a part of a sleeve that completely encircles the shaft. There is a small button shaped cap on top of the shaft.
I would like to know how to get that metal sleeve off the shaft and if that's the wrong move then how to get the key out of the shaft. I really need to replace the key if I'm going to purchase a new pulley.

ANSWER: Hello Zack:

The Murray Breakdown Does Not List the Transaxle for this Mower in the Parts Breakdown. Depending on the OEM and Model of the Transaxle will Determine the Removal and Replacement of the Key/Sleeve. On the Transaxle is an OEM Identification Plate. Send me the Information Off of This Plate, Please. With this Information, I can Locate the Proper Manuals and Better Assist You. Thanks.

Answer
Hi Zack:

The Cap Should be Covering an E-Clip. Pop the Cap Off and Remove the E-Clip and the Pulley Should Slide Off the Shaft. I have Never Seen a Shaft like you Described. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem, then I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.
