Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): kohler 8 hp motor (cast iron), hp motor, set of numbers

Question
Sir, I just bought a cast iron Kohler motor (8 hp) last weekend at an auction, it is painted orange, a lot like the old Power King tractors (I think). I don't see any numbers on it anywhere, but I have 2 on air compressor that are 10 years apart and it looks just like one of those. Anyway, someone has taken the governor nut off and the arm is now outside the motor and I don't seem to be able to get it back where it is suppose to be, any tips on how to put it back, or can you tell me where I might find a parts break down on the net so I could see what it looks like where it goes?  I know you would like to have a model number, but since I can't find one, I can send you a picture if you think that would help.      thanks   tom in orlando

There has to be a set of numbers on this engine have you looked at the starter cover? Sometimes they are hard to find with the older engines.Place the governor nut on one of the threaded shafts and start the engine if it runs wild it is wrong. Keep moving it till the engine will idle.
