Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Engine Running Rough, carburetor body, adjustment screws

Question
I have a Husqvarna GTH 2654T garden tractor with a B&S ELS 725 26hp model 446777 0244E1 engine. The tractor has been running great until a few days ago. It has about 50 hours on it and is about 2 years old. I started it and drove it and then after about 5 minutes it quit running. The only way it would stay running is with almost full choke. I changed the pre-air cleaner and air filter and fuel filter and fuel pump but that didn't fix anything. I had just put gas in it from 2 fuel cans that had little gas left in them. Does this sound like a water in fuel thing?

It only runs with choke out about 80%

Thanks, Don

Answer
Hello Don:

From your Description, it Sounds like you are Correct about the Water/Trash in the Gas. The "Using the Choke to Keep the Engine Running Tells me the Carburetor Requires Cleaning First.  Remove, Disassemble and Soak the Carburetor Overnight in Carburetor Cleaner (I Use Gunk). I have Found that Most People can Use a Breakdown/IPL and Disassemble the Carburetor Enough for Proper Cleaning. You Only have to Remove the Bowl, Float Pin, Float and Needle Valve and Any Adjustment Screws that Go Into the Carburetor Body. The Welch Plugs Do Not have to be Removed. Then Soak the Carburetor Body and Parts in a 1 Gallon Can of Gunk Carburetor Cleaner Overnight. The Can has a Parts Tray Inside it for the Small Parts. Once the Carburetor and Parts are in the Cleaner, you can Replace the Lid for Safety and to Prevent Accidental Spillage. Then Blow Out the Passages with Compressed Air. Install New Parts if Required. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck

Hi Don:

I forgot; You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Engine at this Site Addy, http://www.smallenginepartswarehouse.com/parts.asp and Select the Shop Online Parts Look Up. Then Select the Model Tab. Then Select the OEM and Enter the Model and Type Numbers. Then Double Click on the Model in the Results Area. Now you can Select the Section of the Engine you Wish to View. Thanks.
