Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Honda HRX Trans, honda hrx, hrx217hxa

Question
QUESTION: John,
I recently replaced the drive clutch cable and trans control arm per Honda P1153873 (did not realize it was covered under warranty and replaced it myself) on my HRX217HXA. The mower works ok but is not able to be pulled backwards (even when the drive is disengaged). The wheels feel like they are still partially engaged. I've adjusted the cables per the manual but this does not seem to make a difference. Any ideas?

ANSWER: Hello Robert:

Check the Ratchet Assemblies in Each Wheel. They May be Frozen/Sticking or the Ratchet Spring May be Broken. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Mower/Engine at this Site Addy, http://hayward.arinet.com/scripts/EmpartISAPI.dll?MF&app=ASP&lang=EN&TF=Mainfram and Select the Catalog American Honda. Then Select Lawn Mower. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

QUESTION: John,
Thanks for the answer and suggestion. I checked both rear wheel ratchet assemblies and they appear to be working correctly. Each wheel rotates backwards freely but when both are rotated backward at the same time (as would happen when the mower is pulled backward) they bind. It seems the axle won't rotate freely in the transmission. Any other ideas?
thanks for your help.

Answer
Hello Robert:

The Ratchets are Supposed to Ratchet when you Pull the Mower in Reverse. If the Ratchet Assemblies are Installed Properly and are Operating Properly; the Ratchet Assembly Allows the Wheel to Release from the Axle and Move in Reverse Rotation even when Both are Pulled in Reverse Together. Make Sure you have the Proper Ratchet Assembly on the Proper Side. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.
