Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): 6.5 HP Briggs on Toro 22 stalls, vice grip pliers, briggs stratton engine

Question
Hi,
I had some stalling probs. with the mower this season and now this weekend it stalls immediately after priming. It only runs maybe 5 seconds. I replaced plug and air filter. Is there a fuel filter on the Toro 22" self propelled (year 2002?) with 6.5 HP Briggs & Stratton engine? I've read about varnish forming in the carb, any diagrams out there how to remove and clean the carb?
Thanks,
KJB

Answer
Hello Kevin:

From your Description, it Sounds like the Carburetor Does Need Cleaning. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Mower at this Site Addy, https://lookup3.toro.com/partdex/default.cfm and Select Start Parts Viewer. Now Enter the Model Numbers. Now Select View Assembly Drawings. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Engine at this Site Addy, http://www.smallenginepartswarehouse.com/parts.asp and Select the Shop Online Parts Look Up. Then Select the Model Tab. Then Select the OEM and Enter the Model and Type Numbers. Then Double Click on the Model in the Results Area. Now you can Select the Section of the Engine you Wish to View. To Remove the Carbuetor; Remove the Breather Assembly from the Carburetor. Grip the Gas Hose with Vice Grip Pliers to Stop the Gas Flow to the Carburetor. Remove the Gas Line at the Carburetor. Unbolt the Carburetor From the Engine and CAREFULLY Turn the Carburetor to Remove the Linkage from the Carburetor Throttle Thru Shaft and Choke (as Required). Now Disassemble the Carburetor, Soak and Clean. Reassemble the Carburetor and Re-Attach the Carburetor to the Engine. Connect the Gas Line and Remove the Pliers. On Some Model Briggs there is a Fuel Filter. Just Follow the Gas Line and you can Locate it if it has One. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.
