Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Lawn Tractor Lights not Working, arinet, mint condition

Question
QUESTION: I just purchased a weedeater lawn ntractor in mint condition (used 5x).  However, the lights don't turn on.  According to the manual, lights run off the alternator and not the battery.  Fuse and connections look good.  Any suggestions on troubleshooting?

ANSWER: Hello Gene:

If you Run the Engine at Full Throttle and the Light Do Not Turn On, then Check the Voltage to the Lights. If there is Voltage to the Lights, then Check the Ground Wire for the Lights. Make Sure it is Making a Good Connection. If No Voltage to the Lights, then the Alternator/Stator is Not Producing the Current for the Headlights. The Alternator/Stator will Charge the Battery aven though it Does Not Operate the Lights. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Mower at this Site Addy, http://hayward.arinet.com/scripts/EmpartISAPI.dll?MF&app=ASP&lang=EN&TF=Mainfram and Select the Catalog Poulan/Weed Eater. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

QUESTION: How should I do that?  Should I start the mower and then disconect the plug by the alternator/stator then touch it with a dc test lamp?

Answer
Hello Again Gene:

Start the Engine and Allow it to Warm Up. Throttle Up to Full and Using you Meter Check the Light Switch for Power on One Side. If you have Power, then Turn the Switch On and Check Both Sides of the Switch for Power. If Only One Side has Power with the Switch in the On Position, then the Switch is Bad. If No Power At the Switch, then the Stator/Alternator is Bad. If Power to Both Sides of the Switch, then Check the Wires to the Headlights and the Ground Wire for the Headlights. Hope this Helps.
