Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): transmission will not engage, lawn tractor, old model

Question
I have automatic Craftsman 16.5HP lawn tractor-4yrs old. Model#917.273502.After I have started the engine, I step on the forward or backward pedal there is a loud grinding noise and no movement. I tried to disengage it in the back to push it out of the garage and that too will not move. Help!! I have a service in a week, but hope it was something easy I am overlooking. Thanks

Go to this Site Addy, http://www3.sears.com/ and Enter the Model Numbers in the Upper Left Search Box and Click Go. Then Visually Verify the Equipment and Click Continue. From this Page you can View Diagrams or Parts Lists for you Equipment. According to the Breakdown your Problem Sounds like an Internal Transaxle Problem. This is a Repair for the Service Center.
