Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): clutch adjustments?, clutch pedal, belt tension

Question
Hello, I have a Crafstman LT400 (917.256451).  When I put tractor in gear, even if I let the clutch out very slowly, it still jerks forward.  Is there an adjustment for this or is my clutch or transaxle on its way out?

Answer
Have you tried a new belt?  My expereince with these old machine is that many part wear just a little but the overall effect of all the minor wear causes a jerky transmission.

There is an ajustment on the idle pulley.  Move the clutch pedal while looking under the mover.  The arm that moves is the ilder arm and the pulley is the idler.  You can loosen the idler pulley bold and slide the idler pulley to adjust the belt tension.
Let me know if this helps.
