Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): will run for a few minutes only, set screws, correct names

Question
Im hoping you can help me with a   problem driving me crazy
I have a simplicity 4212 ( model 281707 0125) with a 12 hp I/C engine that is hard starting and then wont stay running.
When i first got it it did not start at all , after reading a few of your  answers to other post, I removed the carb and then the bowl where i found a load of junk.
I then soaked the carb for a few days with the different set screws removed .
The one i could not get out was the one in the top of the bowl area that the  needle sets in . I dont know the correct names for these .
Anyway after doing this i reinstalled the carb and adjusted the screws to your recommendations in earlier post. I had this engine running so good it would usually start at a bump of the key and not choked at all. It would run at slow rpm or high very smoothly.
Then it happened, as i was cutting the grass all at once it stopped as if it ran out of gas .  I looked in the tank and it still had alittle , maybe 2 inches max,
so I added gas.
After adding gas it was hard to start , I had to jump it with my truck and got it going. It would start then die. I finally got it to run and drove it back to the house .The next day I attempted to start it again but had the same hard starting problem. I again removed the carb cleaned it with gunk ( again unable to remove the one at the top of where the bowl is . Its brass and just starts to strip the top) and blew it out with compressed air. This was no help.
I changed the air cleaner with a new one , still no good.
If i put the manual choke lever close to the bottom ( low idle) and away from choke and manually keep the arm with a set screw on the carb almost completely counterclokwise backing the screw all the way back   I can get it to start sometimes for several minutes but then it dies.
Obvioulsy im getting spark since it will start. Im  using a larger clear fram fuel filter i think more for cars but its the same new one I had on it when it ran so good. When i remove the fuel line at the carb i get gas rushing out so no clogs
So it leads me to believe its the carb, maybe even inside the bowl area and the one part i cant remove . To get it out It might ruin the carb and have to replace it.
Ive read as much s i can find and done all I can think of so if you can help me with any ideas i greatly appreciate it. My next step is to install a new carb which i dont really mind ,the tractor was free, but i dont want to do this and it still be the same . Help!!! Please

Answer
Hello John:

The Brass Screw you Can Not Remove is the Main Nozzle for the Carburetor and is Most Likely the Cause of the Carburetor Problems. This Nozzle comes in the Overhaul Kit for this Carburetor. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Engine at this Site Addy, http://www.smallenginepartswarehouse.com/parts.asp and Select the Shop Online Parts Look Up. Then Select the Model Tab. Then Select the OEM and Enter the Model and Type Numbers. Then Double Click on the Model in the Results Area. Now you can Select the Section of the Engine you Wish to View. The Carburetor Kit Cost Approximately $19.70us Plus Shipping. From your Description, it Sounds like the Main Nozzle is Restricted with Trash and is Restricting the Proper Gas Flow to the Engine. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
