Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Cub Cadet 1811 PTO Problem, cub cadet 1811, clutch unit

Question
I have a Cub Cadet 1811 (Kohler engine) with electric PTO clutch.  When I engage the PTO switch the the PTO clutch engages, but, turns very slow then the switch kicks off.  If i keep the switch enaged the pto turns (slow), but, as soon as i let the switch go the PTO stops.  Is my problem with the PTO clutch, coil, etc....?  Thanks, Randy

Answer
Hello Randy:

First Check the PTO Ground. Make Sure the PTO Ground is Making Good Contact. Check the PTO Windings. If you have an Ohmmeter, Disconnect the Wiring Harness from the front of the Clutch and Check the Resistance of the Clutch. You should have Around 4 or 5 ohms. If At or Near Zero, the Coil has Shorted. John Deere will GLADLY sell you another Clutch Unit for about $200.00 or you can Price One at Outdoor Distributors @ 1-877-707-2787. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
